Hello and happy December! Here we are, in the final month of 2016. Can you believe it? It seems like we all say it every month, but this year has gone by so fast. I am so excited for the holiday season that is now upon us and think that everyone could use a little more joy in our lives this December, right?
This month, the downloads are along the same style as has been throughout the entire year, but there is one major detail that I am stoked to share - I designed the background from a blank digital canvas this month!
One thing that I want to do in 2017 is create more items with elements completely drawn, painted, or illustrated by me - I have discovered that painting, drawing, and doodling has such a calming and happy effect on my heart and I love that I am designing items that I haven't purchased, but rather put my own personal touch on it instead. This is the first of the set for next year, and I hope you love what you see!
One thing that I want to do in 2017 is create more items with elements completely drawn, painted, or illustrated by me - which will include learning handlettering and calligraphy as well (with lots of help from The Daily Lettering Journal by Prairie Letter Shop and this course by Hand Lettered Design!) because I want to be able to offer this service (eventually ... think months from now) for the couples I am blessed to work with.
It has officially been one full year since I started offering digital downloads as freebies every month. I have loved doing this every month and the creative freedom that has come from it - did you have a favorite this year? If so, what was it? I would love to know, as I absolutely plan to continue this next year as well!
For the scripture this month, honestly there wasn't ever a question as to which verse was going to be incorporated into December's design. I think that so many times we as a society get all wrapped up in the materialistic things that Christmas can be about, and forget the one main reason, the most important reason of all that we celebrate Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ. So it only seemed fitting to have this months verse be this one, which makes my heart happy every time I read it.
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
This month, I hope that as we are walking through this Christmas season, that you also take time to remember why we are truly celebrating. I especially love to do a devotional every day specifically focusing on the season of Advent, and this year am absolutely loving this one by Amen Paper Company. With everything we have filling up our calendars, it's particularly nice to slow down and remember that it's not about the presents, it's not about what's on sale - it is about celebrating the coming of our wonderful counselor, MightyGod, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
I hope you have an amazing month, and that I see you here again soon!
