I have started and restarted this post a dozen times in the last few months. However, I wasn’t able to write it fully because every single time, I have added to it or taken away and thought about it honestly way too much. So today, it is Monday, August 8th, and I am sitting at my computer with a blank canvas in front of me to write this post with whatever emotions come to my mind, and simply hit publish. Because sometimes, writing things as they come to you is better than coming up with trying to find the perfect way to say what you feel.
It's funny how life takes you on one path, with many twists and turns along the way, until you finally realize exactly what it is that you have been created to do. I started my wedding planning business six years ago as an excited twenty-something who was wanting to create a business as a wedding planner and help so many couples on the Gulf Coast. I have had weddings from Mobile to SanDestin, and enjoyed every single one. However, over the course of these last six years, I have completely fallen in love with one particular aspect of the planning process, which has become a huge part of my business. It has brought out a completely different side of my creativity and I absolutely love it.
I am so glad the gorgesousness that was Mary and Ricky's wedding is beginning to grace this blog! You first read about them a few months ago in their love story post. These two were the sweetest towards each other throughout the entire time planning their wedding, and their wedding day was absolutely beautiful. It was filled with so many elegant and rich colors, and Mary's one of a kind wedding dress, designed and sewn completely by Ruthy was absolutely stunning. Mary and I worked together for a bit more than a year to bring her wedding idea to life, and it turned out absolutely stunning.
I am swooning with excitement for these lovelies upcoming wedding day ... they will be married in just a few short weeks, and we have had an amazing time planning together! Ashley and Ben are from Louisiana, so other than two in-person meetings, we have planned their day pretty much via phone calls and emails. It has gone amazingly well! Ashley and I both said pretty quickly after just a couple of weeks of working together, "we have this communication thing down pat". I am so excited for their wedding day, it'll be such a pretty one filled with family heirlooms and gorgeous details I can't wait to share with you. So for now, here's a little sneak preview of these two lovebirds and their story. Only a bit longer before these two get to say "I Do!"How did you two meet? We met through mutual friends in high school. I was a sophomore, and Ben was a senior.
Ashley, when did you know that HE was the one for you? When I saw the love he has for my family, especially my siblings. He truly understands how important my family is to me, and he loves them just as much as I do! It makes my heart smile just thinking about it!
Ben, when did you know she was the one? She went on a school trip to Washington DC, and I knew that's when I knew. I couldn't wait for her to get home!
How did he pop the question? We had been looking at rings for a while. I gave him three choices to pick from at a local jeweler. What I didn't know is that he took two of my choices and had a ring customized just for me (and it's perfect!). He asked me to marry him at our house, him and I.... Just how I wanted it to be!
Share a few favorite things about your wedding day! We are getting married in June on the beach at Margaritaville in Pensacola Beach, Florida. We always knew we wanted a destination wedding, but we knew it would be difficult for Ashley's elderly grandparents to travel out of the country. Ashley has very fond childhood memories of summer vacations in Pensacola Beach so we knew this would be the perfect place for us to share our special day with our closest family and friends.
Describe your wedding in three words: Classy, Elegant, Romantic. The wedding and reception will be very elegant and romantic with a vintage touch.
Out of everything, what is the most important to the two of you on your wedding day (other than becoming husband and wife!)? We want to be able to enjoy our guests who have traveled great distances to share such a special time in our lives with us!
What have you loved most about planning your wedding? I have loved having a wedding planner. Kristin has made the entire wedding planning process such an enjoyable, stress free experience!
What has been the most difficult part? The most challenging part (which hasn't even really been challenging) has been being 4 hours away from our wedding destination.
Have you always dreamed about your wedding day? Or, was the day you got engaged when you first started thinking about it? As far as my wedding day, I always knew I wanted a destination wedding, on a beach somewhere, at sunset. As far as themes, decor, colors, etc ... I didn't really think about it until we started planning.
Where are you headed for your honeymoon? We are going to celebrate in the Caribbean. We are torn between the Dominican Republic and the VIrgin Islands. We just want to go somewhere that is beautiful, where we can relax and not have a schedule.
What makes you most excited about being Ben's wife? I'm excited to experience life and everything it brings us with someone who loves me for me, always puts me first, and wants nothing more than to provide a great life for me. I can't imagine life with anyone else!
Ben, what makes you excited about being Ashley's husband? To share our life together, raise healthy children, and grow old together by eachother's side.
When it comes to marriage and your life together, what are the two of you looking forward to the most? Family vacations with our children, the every day chaos that comes with marriage and raising a family...everything from laundry and cooking to school functions and sports practices!
Picture your lives five years from now. Where do you see yourselves, what do you see happening in your lives together? We hope to be building our forever house, working in the professions that we love, raising happy and healthy children, and enjoying life and all it has to offer!
Do you have any advice for newly engaged brides, or those in the middle of planning? Hire Kristin! She has made this process so enjoyable. I couldn't do it without her! She is definitely making my "vision" come to life!
Ashley and Ben, I can't wait for your wedding day to be here! Enjoy these last few weeks as fiancées together!
Isn't this bouquet just simply breathtaking?! A few months ago, my friend Micah of Micah Nelson Photography contacted me to create an invitation suite for a creative styled shoot that she was planning on doing, which was a Queen of Hearts inspirational shoot.
I am in love with the colors that she used - dusty blues, deep reds, with splashes of reds and golds made it such a beautiful and different combination! The gold beaded dress that is featured is absolutely stunning as well. From the unique furniture to the creative elements that were brought in to create the unique look, this is one that you definitely should take a look at today!
Laura and David's wedding is right around the corner, and I am so excited to see these two tie the knot! We've been working together planning their wedding for a little over a year, and we have had a blast doing so! Every meeting we have had, Laura and David have both been there together every single time, and these two have such strong love and respect for each other in addition to having such an amazing sense of humor with each other that every meeting was always filled with laughter sprinkled in, as they are just plain fun to be around! Their wedding day is filled with fun personal touches and small details that will share their personalities with their guests and I can't wait for it to be here.
I am so excited to share Amanda and Nick's wedding with you today! They were married in March of this year and had their ceremony at Old Christ Church, with their reception in the ballroom at the Crowne Plaza in Pensacola. Amanda and Nick have dated for quite a long time, so this wedding meant a lot to so many of them. I didn't actually get to meet Nick until the weekend of the wedding, but the minute that I met him and saw the two of them together, I knew that these two lovebirds would have an amazing wedding day and an incredible marriage after. They are a great team, and I know that they are going to have an amazing life together! Thanks so much to Alley Kat Photography for sharing these photos below from their wedding day. Their Pensacola wedding was beautiful!
Amanda knew the kind of wedding that she wanted to have from the first time that we met. Romantic, vintage, filled with lace and babies breath, cotton and shabby chic details. Blush pinks, ivories, and navy blues were added into the mix to complete her dream wedding. From vintage birdhouses filled with flowers for centerpieces to her amazing dress, this wedding is one that was filled with eye-catching details.
One of the first things I learned about working with Amanda is how closely knit their families are. Amanda, her mom, and her sister are so close and every meeting that we had together, I saw this love firsthand. They all were always so loving with each other, and were an amazing family to get to be a part of their lives with while planning!
Amanda's dress was amazing! It was filled with so many details - the beading and lace was beautifully done and it was absolutely incredible.
I love this image of Amanda's mom looking at her. This describes their love for each other so well.
Nick was incredibly handsome that day as well!
On the way to the ceremony, they took the Five Flags Trolley from the Crowne Plaza to Old Christ Church. It made for a very relaxing ride to Old Christ Church and then back to the Crowne Plaza after the ceremony!
When it came time for the rings, Amanda had kept a fake toy ring that Nick had given her years ago. Nick was pretty surprised when this same ring was placed in his hand during the ceremony! However, there was no need to worry, as they had special a "Ring Security" gentleman come and and bring the real one during the ceremony!
After the ceremony, everyone headed to the Crowne Plaza for the reception, which was filled with vintage items from Hemstitch Vintage. We incorporated birdcages, cotton, beautiful pink flowers of many different kinds, and they even had lace chair backs for the Mr. and Mrs. Chairs!
I loved the lace detail chair backs that they had for their Bride and Groom chairs!
Instead of having a traditional wedding cake, Amanda and Nick opted for an incredible candy buffet. All of these sweets made the room smell so good! With dozens of cupcakes, chocolates, and sweet treats for people to choose from, everyone had something to enjoy that they liked to eat.
Amanda changed into a sparkly gorgeous dress about halfway through the reception. It was a beautiful going-away dress!
For their exit, Amanda and Nick chose to have guests throw mini airplanes instead of bubbles or sparklers. It was a great nod to Nick's military career. We gave each guest a few so that they could toss more than one as they were leaving. It definitely made everyone laugh and added a bit more fun to the night too!
Congratulations Amanda and Nick, I hope that you have an amazing life together!!
